Collaborating
As many choral and organ scholars are interested in conducting and composition opportunities, it is worth noting that Queens’ College Chapel Choir caters for both of these musical interests. The Chapel Choir gives student conductors within the choir the opportunity to conduct the weekly Friday choral compline service in Queens’ Chapel, providing them with invaluable conducting experience during their academic studies.
The Chapel Choir is occasionally directed by eminent visiting conductors such as Dr Christopher Robinson and Peter Allwood, allowing the young conductors to experience different conducting styles while performing within the choir. Ralph Allwood can provide private conducting tuition for those who may be interested. Conductors can also apply to direct the MagSoc concert at the end of each term, conducting great works of the choral repertoire with the MagSoc Chorus and Symphony Orchestra.
Ralph Allwood, the Organ Scholars, and the Chapel Choir welcome the opportunity to perform new music by early-career and established composers. Members of the Chapel Choir are strongly encouraged to compose new music and descants for the choir and organists. Queens’ College Chapel Choir hosted a student Composition Competition in 2017 and intend to host it again in 2019.
